“I was always the skinny kid who found it really hard to bulk up”.

Mack always had a skinny frame even though he was always active in spartan races and competed in powerlifting throughout his life.

So it came as no surprise that it was extra challenging for him when he decided to become a bodybuilder to compete in “Musclemania”, inspired by his childhood fitness idol, Arnold Schwarzenegger. Driven by the belief that “If he wants to do it, he has to win it”, he trained extremely hard to bulk up!

But something wasn't working - at 33, it was taking Mack much longer to build his muscle tissue. So when his ‘muscle growth’ peaked, something had to change.

Transforming grief into purpose

The passing of Mack’s dad became an epiphany: it inspired him to reprioritise his life’s purpose, from chasing the cloud of financial wealth to investing in the future of health. “Health became more important than money”.

Pumping iron and training others became his saving grace - turning grief into meaningful progress.

“My dad's health struggles motivated me to do something good that helps people. I don't want anyone to experience the pain I have been through in the future”. With the support of genetic profiling, he knew that today’s pain will be tomorrow’s gain.

“My granddad once told me that even though we know we will die, we should want to live healthy to the end.”

LESS PAIN, MORE GAINS

While looking for supplements for his personal training clients, Mack accidentally came across DNA testing. He decided to give the test a try in order to understand how it works to empower his clients with the insights.

Surprisingly, the results gave Mark a new perspective on nutrition and fitness. With the report confirming that it was genetically harder for him to build muscles, sensitive to carbohydrates, and a creative thrill-seeker like his dad.

This led to him to reprioritise recoveries after workouts, a focus on building endurance, reducing carbs in his diet, and preparing better for competitions.

The genetic test not only allowed Mack to learn more about strengthening his muscles, but also provided him with insights to educate his customers to steer away from sheer proactive health and gear towards preventative measures to avoid over-training or burnouts.
