Meet Ziggy

The Fitness Mom

Ziggy always thought postpartum recovery would be easy, until she became a mother, underwent two pregnancies and experienced full-on physical drainage from giving birth, Ziggy proved herself wrong - she underestimated the trauma labouring could bring forth.

How can a DNA test help make us fitter moms?

It’s about time we uncloak the story of motherhood! Let’s take a tour of Ziggy’s journey of health and happiness.

Fit Mama’s here to help new moms with postpartum recovery

Fitness has always been a huge part of Ziggy's life. The gym-goer has been fit since college days and always believed a healthy human body can stretch a little further - be it striving for physique improvements or bearing a postnatal recovery.

Not until she had been through postpartum recovery did she realise how challenging and draining the process could be. Even Fit Mamas like Ziggy could experience physical difficulties, not to mention that postnatal training classes were not affordable for her at that time. This led her to plan out her own postnatal workout routines tailored for her own needs.

Given her first-handed experience, bubbly personality and sky-high energy levels at all times, Ziggy was determined to be a pre- and post-natal trainer. Running her own online classes and co-hosting a podcast allowed Ziggy to hold space for fellow mothers to heal together and make such fitness resources accessible for all.

Since then, Ziggy’s everyday revolves around doing what she firmly believes in: preaching her get-up-and-go approach; spreading the joy of staying “comfy” - Ziggy’s favourite word - and living healthily.

“Postpartum is about rest, recovery, fueling your body again, and bonding with your baby.”

Picking up postpartum tips from DNA

Having two beautiful children, 5-years-old George and 3-months-old Callum, running around in the house can be energy-demanding, even for a powermom like Ziggy. It became vital for her to have the right tools and knowledge on staying fit, healthy and keeping her spirits high.

Ziggy experienced a lot of bloating from the first pregnancy, and the amount of time she took to recover in postpartum took longer than expected.

“I took a DNA test after my first pregnancy. It told me to increase my folate, which I did for the second pregnancy, and it really, really helped.”

By taking a DNA test, Ziggy realised she had to add Vitamin B complex and supplements, which drastically helped her enjoy and recover much better from the second pregnancy. Not only did the insights serve as the shortcut to the right diet and exercises, she was also able to keep up with the upbeat energy of her little ones. In hindsight, Ziggy wished that she had taken the DNA test even earlier before her first pregnancy, minimising the pain, prolongness and even bloating.

But when it came to the family, health was no longer merely Ziggy’s own business - it was literally family business.

As a power couple in the fitness sector, both Ziggy and her husband Dan lead very active lives as fitness trainers. Yet, the energetic drive was not reassuring enough for planning a family.

In order to equip themselves in becoming even better parents, they actively searched for solutions. Like Dan said, “as trainers, we try things for ourselves, and find what works for us. See what we’re good at and know what’s challenging for us.” Hence, they decided to give the CircleDNA test a go in order to get hold of better insights for better health & family plans.

The results paved the way for Ziggy and Dan to have important conversations regarding health and carrier conditions, allowing both of them to understand the red flags and potential health risks they might had passed onto their kids.

“I hadn't done the DNA test when I had my first pregnancy, but during my prenancy check-ups, [the medics] said I had thalassemia, which neither my parents or myself knew about this. If Dan had been positive, then our children would not have survived.”

“We have to accept & respect our bodies. We are literally carrying on the human race!”
